2021 Annual Report

Environmental review

In order continue to go further in recycling quality ecosystem evaluates the environmental footprint of each stage of the recycling chain (waste transport, depollution, material recycling, etc.). This review shows the environmental benefits of recycling that enable resources to be regenerated. Currently, it covers the entire scope in electrical and electronic household appliances and lamps.

The 2021 key figures

ecosystem has identified three major environmental stakes within its business. This year collection enabled

the emission of
tonnes de CO2 to be avoided
tonnes de raw materials to be saved
Kwh to be saved

Fighting against global warming

The CO2 emissions avoided equates to 4,938,627 Lille-Marseilles journeys by car!

This indicator quantifies the greenhouse gas emissions avoided thanks to the regeneration of materials and their energy recovery.

Collection enabled the emission of 548,736 tonnes de CO2 to be avoided, i.e. the equivalent of 4,9 billion km in a car or 4,9 billion Lille-Marseille car journeys.

More than 1,325,000 tonnes of CO2 removed thanks to the depollution of equipment containing cooling gases or insulation.

In addition to the CO2 emissions avoided thanks to the regeneration of materials and their recovery, the depollution of equipment containing cooling gases (fridges, air conditioners) enabled high potential global warming gases to be recovered and neutralised.

Collection enables the equivalent of 1,325,317 tonnes of CO2 to be removed, i.e. the quantity of CP2 absorbed by 110 million trees in a year.

Fighting against the depletion of fossil resources

More than 1, 814 000 000 kWh saved!

This indicator evaluates the avoided consumption of oil, coal, gas, etc. thanks to the regeneration of materials and their energy recovery. It then expresses this in terms of the fossil resources depletion in terms of the stocks available and their use.

Collection allows 1.8 billion kWh to be saved, i.e. the energy consumption for heating 393,360 households in France.

Fighting against mineral resource depletion

This indicator evaluates the avoided consumption of minerals (metals, precious metals, rare earth metals, etc.) thanks to the regeneration of materials and their energy recovery. It then expresses this in terms of the mineral depletion in terms of the stocks available and how they are exploited.

Collection enabled 3,917,850 tonnes of raw materials to be saved, i.e. the equivalent of mineral resources required to produce 9,763,328 million items of IT equipment.

Making environmental analysis of operational projects systematic

With the work carried out in 2020 we finished and configured our environmental assessment calculation tool for the operations that we manage. This tool enables key environmental stakes and challenges to be identified in order to improve the environmental footprint our our activities. The treatment of hot water tanks is part of this, with, in 2021, a estimated potential to reduce carbon-related impacts of nearly 300,000 tonnes of CO2. To support decision-making in what is a key project, simulations were carried out to evaluate environmental effectiveness of the different scenarios considered. This work prefigures in the deployment of a simplified, in-house environmental evaluation tool that helps us manage our various projects in a systematised way.
